The Sacramento Police Foundation provides an opportunity for the Sacramento Police Department to build stronger relationships between the department and the citizens it serves.
The programs funded by the Foundation touch the lives of many, from young to old. The Foundation partners with community programs such as Kops-n-Kids, Sacramento Community Cares Program, Holiday Giving, Criminal Justice Magnet Academy, and the Pedals program.
The most recent program added to the Foundation's list is the Sacramento Community Cares Program. It is a grass roots program founded by a Sacramento Police Dispatcher to help people in need of emergency, short term assistance. The goal of the program is to give officers and other Police personnel the ability to provide a meal, a room for a night, a travel voucher, and other emergency necessities to those in need. The program's main focus of assistance are people who are "just down on their luck" and do not qualify for other non-profit assistance programs. The Program started as a "stranded travelers" program, but through time, we found that there are many citizens that need assistance as well, which officers and dispatchers are in contact with during their working day and are compelled to help by providing "out of pocket" assistance. Sacramento Community Cares Program assistance is a referral-only based program.
